Who We Are

Ceduna Aboriginal Corporation(CAC)

CAC is a not-for-profit community- controlled Corporation that has led significant social and economic reform for Aboriginal people in the Ceduna region since 1974. Our Corporation has played a vital role in advocating for the betterment of our local Aboriginal people and communities since the early 1970s.

We continue to serve our people and region actively and are proud of what we have achieved.

Our mission and vision

We are the leading Indigenous body advocating for and delivering quality social and economic development opportunities for Aboriginal people, to improve the emotional well-being of all of our constituents including the opportunity to sustain and build on our diverse cultural heritages.

Improving the lives of Aboriginal People in Ceduna and surrounds

Being a Voice for the community

Creating a pathway to a great cultural, social and economic future

Our core objectives are to:

  • Assist in the relief of poverty, sickness, destitution, helplessness, distress, suffering and misfortune amongst Aboriginal people in the Ceduna region.

  • Engage with relevant stakeholders and service delivery providers to maximise positive training and employment outcomes for all Aboriginal people in the Ceduna region.

  • Engage in partnerships and/or agreements with stakeholders to promote economic benefits for the organisation and its members.

  • Support the Aboriginal residents of the Ceduna region in pursuing activities that strengthen and reinforce cultural, artistic, social and other well-being initiatives.

  • Design and implement strategies that meet the needs of Aboriginal youth to achieve a better quality of life.

  • Strengthen and support activities that build mutually respectful relationships between the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal community.

  • Provide opportunity for Aboriginal people in the Ceduna region to fully participate in all aspects of community life as enjoyed by the wider community.

  • Operate and maintain a gift fund to be known as ‘Ceduna Aboriginal Corporation Gift Fund’ in accordance with the requirements of the Australian Taxation Office.

Our history

In April 1997, the Far West Aboriginal Progress Association (established 1974) amalgamated with the Ceduna Aboriginal Community Council to form the Ceduna Aboriginal Community Council Inc.

The Ceduna Aboriginal Community Council Inc. then joined the Tjutjunaku Worka Tjuta Inc. (established 1989) officially amalgamating in July 2000. In July 2012 the Tjutjunaku Worka Tjuta Inc. became the Ceduna Aboriginal Corporation.

Our place

Ceduna is derived from the Aboriginal word “Tjutjuna” meaning a place to sit down and rest.

The beautiful and remote town of Ceduna is 780km from South Australia’s capital Adelaide and 1900km from Western Australia’s capital Perth.
